Pokes Advance to 5-0 After Defeating A&M

Well it was another one of those nights for Dez Bryant as Oklahoma State was finally able to end the 4-year losing streak against Texas A&M. This is the fourth consecutive game in which the cowboys have scored 50+ points on their opponents and they made it look pretty simple.

The first half was a nightmare of all sorts for the Aggies after they turned the ball over 5 times, two of which were interception returns for touchdowns. Cowboys' Patrick Lavine and Ugo Chinasa were both able to pick Jerrod Johnson passes for touchdowns to expand the Pokes early lead.

Dez Bryant had another great game recording 4 touchdowns, one of which was a 78-yard punt return touchdown.  The other TD's came off of 29, 23, and 21-yard passes from Robinson. He finished the day with 106 yards receiving.

As expected, the offense had yet another great game. Robinson went 10/13 for 186 yards and 3 TDs through the air to go along with 15 rushes for 66 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. The ground game was unable to perform as it had in previous weeks, but it was still pretty efficient. However, the cowboys snapped their 15 game streak of at least one 100-yard rusher, as Kendall Hunter came up just 10 yards short. Regardless, the pokes were still able to rack up 215 yards rushing with the help of runs by Toston and Robinson.

The defense had a stellar evening and it was definitely their best game so far this year. They forced 5 turnovers in the first half alone, which helped the Pokes jump out with a huge early lead. The only play that went wrong for the D in the first half was the 80-yard run by Mike Goodson late in the first quarter that brought A&M within 14.

Considering that the Cowboys defense had only forced 6 turnovers in their previous 4 games, they proved a lot in last nights game. If the defense is able to force a couple turnovers a game, the offense should be able to handle the rest.

Improvements to Look For

Here are some areas that I would like to see improvement in during today's game:

1) A stronger pass rush

2) A better rushing defense

3) Create more turnovers

4) A better red-zone defense

5) More tackles for losses

6) More receivers involved in passing game

7) Less penalties on both sides of the ball

Week 5 Roundup

Well, it's October...and Big XII play is finally here.

1) Will the Pokes continue to score with ease and drop their average of 52 on A&M?

2) Do you expect more receivers to be involved in the passing game this weekend? Or will it be all Dez once again?

3) How do you think our Defense will fare against the Aggies?

4) Big XII Predictions

OSU v. A&M
Mizzou @ Nebraska
Texas Tech @ Kansas State
Oklahoma @ Baylor
Texas @ Colorado

5) What, if anything, worries you about the game this weekend?

Inside the Match-Up: Texas A&M

Things have not been easy for the Texas A&M Aggies (2-2) so far this season.

They began their season with what was supposed to be an easy 'W' at home against Arkansas State. However, things didn't go as expected. They completely blew a 14-3 lead after half, turning the ball over 4 times, missing field-goal, and playing sloppy defense. This led to a 18-14 loss, ruining the Aggies 20 game winning streak in home openers. In week 2, A&M barely hung on to a 28-22 victory over New Mexico after almost blowing another 2nd half lead.

Then on an ESPN nationally televised slot a week later, Miami blew the Aggies out of the water on their home turf. The Hurricanes dropped 42 on A&M's defense and in the third quarter scored 17 points over a 72 second span. Last weekend the Aggies were finally able to provide their fans a home field victory with a 21-17 win over Army.

On Saturday, A&M will come to Stillwater where they will face one of the most prolific and high-scoring offenses in the nation. Averaging nearly 52 pts and 342 rushing yards/game thus far, the Cowboys look to take advantage of the Aggies after last year's disappointing 24-23 loss. The Aggies have beaten the Cowboys 4 years in a row; however, things see m to be a little different this year...With their starting quarterback Stephen McGee still day-to-day (shoulder sprain), A&M is going to need all the offense they can get. They have only managed to score 21 pts/game and without the help of the '12th Man', it could be a long day for the Aggies.

Mizzou Game to be Nationally Televised on ESPN or ESPN2

It has been announced by the Big XII that the Oklahoma State / Mizzouri game will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2 (TBD on Sunday). The game time as of now is set for 7 PM when the teams meet on October 11th. It is likely that the game be televised on ESPN if both teams win their games this weekend (Mizzou v Nebraska / OSU v A&M).

Pokes Place #21 in AP Poll After Win Over Troy, 55-24

The Cowboys took the field Saturday with something to prove. With a record-setting 52,463 people in attendance, the Pokes looked to improve to 4-0 and push their way into the AP Poll for the first time in 4 years. After last year's dissappointing loss to Troy, the Cowboys were seeking for some revenge. The Trojans, who were 2-1 coming into saturday's game, weren't able to handle the Cowboy's balanced offensive attack from the very start of the game.

On the first Oklahoma State drive, it only took the Cowboys 11 plays lasting 5 min. and 16 sec. to score with a heavy dosage of Hunter, Bryant and Toston. The drive was capped by what looked like a simple 16-yard TD pass from Robinson to Bryant.

It seemed like it was all Dez in the first half. All 118 of his receiving yards were recorded in the first half along with all 3 of his TDs. His second touchdown was a 26-yard pass off of a well-ran and executed slant route by Dez. His third touchdown was a 44-yard lob pass (which was extremely underthrown by Zac) that he had to leap for under double-coverage at the 5 yard-line and bowl his way into the endzone for the score. Dez has continued to show his infinite amount of talent with his great catches and the way he finishes after making his catches.

The defense also looked stellar from the start. On their first appearance, the pass coverage looked great only allowing one pass completion for nine yards. After that, the Pokes forced the Trojans to a fourth-down and 9 which they failed to convert, turning the ball over on downs. In the first half, the defense allowed only 10 points and created two more turnovers off of an interception by Jacob Lacey and a forced fumble created by Andre Sexton.

It was another great day on the ground for the Cowboy tailbacks. Kendall Hunter had his 4th consecutive 100-yard game this season running 24 carries for 169 yards and 2 TDs. This stretched the streak of at least one 100-yard rushers to 15 games. Keith Toston also had a strong game rushing for 114 yards on 17 carries and 2 TDs.

Overall, I think the Pokes look pretty good and are ready for Big XII play starting next weekend against Texas A&M. Zach Robinson has the offense in rhythm (50 points in 3 consecutive games) and he has showed good consistency over the past few games. The defense has also made drastic improvements since last year and will hopefully continue to improve and mature.

Based on how A&M has been playing so far this year, it is easy to underestimate them; however, we cannot start looking ahead at Mizzou and count the Aggies out. You never know what to expect in Big XII play.
